Problem
Planning a trip to Mongolia usually means commission-driven agency sites and scattered, outdated forum posts. Travelers cannot easily tell honest information from sales copy, and the local operators who actually run the trips are hard to find directly. As a Mongolian developer, I wanted one place that treats visitors like adults: verified facts, real costs, and direct contact with operators.
Process
I designed the brand and built the platform end to end. The site is a React application on Vite with TypeScript, styled with Tailwind and shadcn/ui components. Content is organized the way people actually plan: destination guides covering six regions, a planning guide for visas, budgets, and timing, an interactive cost estimator, a festival calendar, and a directory of ger camps, tour operators, and transport services. It deploys to Cloudflare Pages.
Key Decisions
- No bookings and no commissions: the site links travelers directly to operators instead of taking a cut, which is the entire point of its credibility.
- Verified, dated facts over marketing copy: information carries when it was checked, so readers can judge freshness themselves.
- A brand of its own: the ger-and-mountains mark and "Mongolia, properly." voice position it as an independent guide, not another agency skin.
- Static deployment on Cloudflare Pages: fast globally, effectively free to run, which keeps the no-commission model sustainable.
Outcome
The platform is live and covers the full planning journey from picking a region to contacting an operator. It is the project where my heritage and my engineering meet: a resource I wished existed, built the way I believe travel information should work.
